Software…
It’s April 18th, a customer comes up to me holding a copy of Turbo Tax.
cust: “how much are you going to give me for this piece of software?
I glance at the price tag on the box and I read it to him
me: “$19.99″
cust: “Tax season is over”
me: “Yes.. but some people filed extensions thus why we still have the software available for a short while.”
cust: “I am not going to pay full price for this software, tax season has passed. No one is going to pay full price for this software.”
me: “Do you have a membership card, or perhaps a coupon where you are eligible for a discount off your purchase?”
cust: “No.”
me: “Then the software would be full price.”
cust: “But tax season has passed…. what are you going to do with the software people do not purchase? You are going to eventually throw it in a bargain bin anyway so let’s talk discount!”
me: “Actually after a certain time the manufacture will send a memo out asking us to return the software back to them and we will receive credit.”
cust: “You won’t get full credit from them.”
me: “I would get more credit from them then I would if I discounted the software to you and everyone else that didn’t want to pay full price.”
cust: “I am going to go purchase the software from someone whom will be more reasonable.”
me: “have a nice day!”
